Symbolic Planting of Rară Neagră at Château Purcari
Rară Neagră Protected Together with Purcari Friends.
At Château Purcari, we invited friends for a symbolic planting event of the Rară Neagră vines, thus paying tribute to a grape variety with a millennial history. The event was attended by guests from various fields, from art to business, who planted 200 Rară Neagră cuttings in the winery’s vineyards.
The event was full of surprises. The guests enjoyed a musical delight provided by Tatiana Turtureanu and her band, as well as a theatrical performance staged in the heart of the vineyard. The play, which tells the story of the Rară Neagră grape variety through a dialogue between generations, highlights its centuries-old history.
„Rară Neagră is a symbolic grape variety for the Republic of Moldova, a Romanian variety that has achieved great success here in the Purcari region. We aim to continue this beautiful history of reviving this legendary grape variety.,” stated Victor Bostan, CEO of Purcari Wineries Group.
The event is a tribute to the Romanian grape variety Rară Neagră, which was on the brink of extinction but has been revived and protected at Purcari. A blend of past and future, a communion dedicated to preserving our winemaking heritage.
„This variety gives rise to an extraordinary wine, Rară Neagră de Purcari. The origin of this variety is Romanian. I knew Băbeasca from Nicorești 50 years ago; it seems to be the same variety and the same good wine.,” stated Mircea Lucescu, a football coach from Romania.
On the verge of extinction, the Rară Neagră variety is now part of Romanian wine culture and represents a priority for the Château Purcari team.
“We are starting a new 10-year project that will allow us to improve this variety, making it healthier and more interesting in terms of agronomic characteristics, so that all Moldovans can be proud and it can be propagated with full force throughout the country.”,” mentioned Gheorghe Arpentin, Director of Development, Research, and Innovation at Purcari Wineries Group.
